On January 20, 2025, a press conference was held at the Inamori Foundation (Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City) to announce the establishment of new courses in the Inamori Research Grants Program.
The Inamori Research Grants Program, which has been held annually since 1985, will introduce two new courses, “Incubate” and “Accelerate,” starting from 2025. These new courses aim to expand and enrich the program.
The conference was attended by Shinobu Inamori-Kanazawa, President of the Inamori Foundation, and Shigetada Nakanishi, Chairman of the Inamori Foundation and Professor Emeritus at Kyoto University. Nakanishi explained the purpose of establishing the new courses, stating, “The Inamori Research Grants Program is a comprehensive and multi-tiered grant program that mutually complements the Inamori Research Institute for Science (InaRIS) Fellowship Program. The Program features a research support system that spans across various fields, including not only natural sciences but also humanities and social sciences. It leverages the strengths of a private foundation to proactively support innovative research, even if it involves risks.”
Chairman Shigetada Nakanishi (Professor Emeritus, Kyoto University)
The goal of The Inamori Research Grants Program is to support innovative and excellent research activities based on intellectual curiosity with minimal restrictions, fostering talent that will contribute to the international community in the future. The “Incubate” grant is designed to cultivate pioneering research seeds, and the “Accelerate” aims to further elevate research outcomes, encouraging researchers to dedicate themselves to their research. The program offers 2 million yen for the “Incubate” grant, with a total of 50 grants to be awarded, and 10 million yen for the “Accelerate” grant, with a total of 10 grants to be awarded.
