The potential of egoism for the social division - on the basis of Dora Marsden's thought
Keyword
Summary
Social fragmentation—seen in issues such as racism, discrimination based on gender and sexuality, religious conflict, and economic disparity—has become a defining challenge of contemporary society. In response to these divisions, this study explores the potential of egoism, drawing on the thought of Dora Marsden, as a new approach to resolution. This perspective identifies the root of social fragmentation in identity itself and proposes that individuals should live according to their own unique life—one that cannot be reduced to any fixed identity. In other words, by thoroughly living one's own life that is not determined by identity, individuals can deepen division and, beyond that, discover the possibility of solidarity among true egoists.
