Can peer assessment by the academic community identify and foster experts who will pioneer new academic fields?

Summary
The indicators used for research evaluation are not optimized from the perspective of evaluating experts and their research as the sum of that person's activities, and it is difficult to capture the signs of new academic fields envisioned by experts. In this study, we will conduct an analysis using alternative indicators calculated to reflect the behavioral characteristics of each expert, identify Japan's unique research, and clarify how these unique studies are evaluated in KAKENHI Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research system. This will measure the reliability of the researcher community’ ability to strategically foster emerging academic fields through peer review.

Comment

Through this research, which seeks new research evaluation indicators, I hope to visualize the process of creating a trend that satisfies both the advancement of research and the formation of new academic fields, and to use this to create a better research environment.
