Elucidating the mechanism of epigenetic regulation involved in the expression of hybrid vigour in Arabidopsis thaliana
Keyword
Summary
Observed among animals and plants, heterosis is a phenomenon whereby the first-generation hybrid offspring (F1) from a certain combination of parental lines within the same species exhibit enhanced traits over those of its parents. With the model plant Arabidopsis, for example, an F1 from certain parents is significantly bigger than its parents. More recently, there have been discussions as to the possibility of epigenetic control being involved in heterosis. My aim is to elucidate in what molecular mechanism heterosis occurs.
