Fabrication of alloys and control of nano structures are challenging, but we want to fabricate the nano-porous structures which we want.
We have developed nanoporous structures via selective etching of alloys using water. We prepared an alloy of magnesium (Mg) and copper (Cu) and soaked it in water or saline. The difference in the standard electrode potentials results in etching Mg to yield Cu nanoporous structures. This result offers opportunities to develop biodegradable nanoporous structures for biodegradable electronics.
